So it's been a while! I guess I haven't had much to say lately. We've been super busy now that the weather has actually become bearable. I'm constantly outside, usually just sitting or walking, but outside nonetheless so that's a huge step up from the overextended winter we've had.
Everyone brings their dogs everywhere in Prague. It's amazing. The dogs are so well-behaved, just following their owners wherever they go, waiting for them outside when they go get coffee, and never straying. You can even bring your dog to the zoo here, which I think sounds like just the best day ever. We went to the zoo yesterday. I saw big kitties. It made me smile.
The most exciting thing that's happened recently though has definitely been our trip to Croatia. The country was just stunning. It was bliss. The beaches are serene, the towns are cute and quaint, and it's the kind of place that just seems perfect for doing nothing. Being there was like vacation from this semester-long vacation and it was exactly what I needed.
After a grueling 13 hour bus ride to get there (of which, I slept 8 hours UNMEDICATED. GO ME!), we went straight to the beach. I fried like smazeny syr (for all you back at home, that's fried cheese in Czech). My sunburn hurt. Mom, I'm sorry for all those times I yelled at you for making me put on sunblock. It was sad.
Later that night, I tried my first bar crawl. No, I did not make it to the last bar. No, it was not because I was too drunk to get there. I was just tired. And I went to a bakery instead because dessert outweighs all. I met some great girls from NYU and we spent the majority of the weekend together. We bonded over how obnoxiously loud and intoxicated everyone else on the trip was, and how unbearable their company was.
Saturday we went island hopping. Frankly, I'm surprised we all made it alive. The waters were choppy like nothing I've ever experienced (shout out to Larry Wagner here for providing me some solid boat experience before this. I don't know if I would have made it without you.). It was pouring rain, and as we sat at the front of the boat, waves started swarming over us. I pleaded, "PLEASE GOD, TAKE ME BUT DO NOT TAKE THE CAMERA!" We struggled to get inside the boat without falling overboard to our deaths. It was very dramatic. It was terrifying. And I was dead sober. I'm honestly impressed that there weren't more hospital trips that weekend.
I have such a wonderful attitude about Croatia. The people are friendly, and as someone who has been living in Prague for the past few months, I'll just say that I'm not exactly used to that. The food was delicious and I had a plate of seafood pasta to the face. There were stray cats everywhere, and I did not catch rabies in spite of petting so many of them. The whole country is just breezy, breathtaking, and stress-free.
So now we have less than a month in Prague. I'm not sure how I feel about leaving so soon. There are definitely reasons I wish I could stay; I will miss some of the people I've met here, our Monday night family dinners, the sense of adventure that we have going out every day. But I can't wait to get back home. I miss my friends in Boston, I miss my family. For now though, I am staying put. I've got way too much to do in so little time now that it is actually warm out. Hooray spring!
Here's Croatia!
And don't forget Praha!
