Candid Color

Maybe I'm just overly excited about finally having my own space in my apartment next fall (an apartment which I do not yet have). Maybe I need a project, something to focus on to keep me distracted from some other not so wonderful things going on right now (this is definitely true). But lately I have been utterly consumed by the prospect of my new bedroom, in my new apartment for my LAST YEAR OF COLLEGE (pause post here for dramatic effect).

I have gotten super excited lately about finding unique thrift store pieces and combining them with IKEA furniture to make a space truly my own. I want to really personalize my space. I think that when I get back to Boston next year, I am really going to need the year to be memorable in the best possible way. I believe that in some small way, living in a space that makes me feel content will help motivate me to do the same to my life.

My need to design everything down to the last detail has been fueled by my current job situation; I work for a company that has products featured in tons of design magazines, and as a lowly intern it is my duty to flip through literally every home and garden magazine and find said products. I mean EVERY magazine. Even the ones written in an incomprehensible language, which for me is all of the languages except English. So I've been getting a lot of design ideas lately. Too many. I've been trying to choose a color scheme for my new room, and I can't because I am obsessed with every color I see. I'm very flaky about it all.

I've consulted Sherwin Williams' Chip It application (letschipit.com) to help me out with this predicament. The program is awesome, because you can upload an inspirational photo and it will generate all of the Sherwin Williams paint colors that match the colors from your artwork. I haven't quite settled on anything yet, but here are some examples pulled from my own photographs:

I love the eclectic feel of this palette. It reminds me of where I took the image at a flea market in Montreal. I'm really into combining elements of all cultures and backgrounds into a deign space, and this one still feels modern and vibrant.

I have always loved the colors in this photograph. The contrast between the bold reds and the pretty, calm light blues really make this image pop. I don't know that I'd want this for a bedroom, but I think this would be awesome for a creative space like a studio.

I'm digging how warm this photo from Israel feels. The combination of the deep browns, pale yellows and duller blues make this feel very sophisticated.
